When There is No One To Call
The absence of a traditional village often shows up in the small moments.
Your baby or child is sick. You reach an impasse with your toddler over their nap and aren’t sure how to proceed. Or you’ve had your tenth sleepless night in a row. These are the everyday moments where we instinctively reach for the phone, reach for our tether, and find there’s nothing on the other end.
In moments of doubt, it’s our immediate reflex to ask. To seek reassurance that we’re on the right track. To look for comfort in someone else’s wisdom. But instead, the moment hangs there.
This is not weakness, dependency, or failure. It is human. It is how we are designed: we reach for support.
The absence of your own mum, or a village to turn to for wisdom and encouragement, can feel loudest in these small, quiet moments.
Be gentle with yourself this week.
